The Course in Theatre Set Design allows you to become a set designer, i.e. to translate what is designed in the sketches into reality. During the two-year course of study, you will also learn how to design costumes and produce props, working alongside professionals from the Teatro alla Scala.

The list of teaching units and lecturers is subject to change.
In order to be admitted to the course, it is necessary to pass a selection test as follows
Please note that in order to be admitted to the selection, two applications must be sent by 4 p.m. on 10 July 2025, either by post (the postmark will be taken as proof) or delivered by hand to the Students Office.
Full details of the selections can be found in the course brochure.
Register and/or login to the Academy enrollment platform at iscrizioni.accademialascala.it.
The system will ask for personal data and will propose the "Terms & Conditions", a document that must be signed and re-attached and which contains important contractual details, such as the right of withdrawal.
After completing this step, you will be asked to enter the attachments for each course, detailed in the brochure (if you have not already downloaded it, do so now!).
Then, you will be asked to pay the fee, either by credit card or by online transfer directly from the same registration screen (banks in the MyBank circuit are accepted: check first that yours is there).
At the end, a pdf will be generated summarising all the data entered, which must be signed and attached.
At this point, the enrolment is complete and goes directly to the Students' Office.
Diplomas obtained abroad must be enclosed together with their legal recognition, as required by Italian law.
In particular:
It is also essential to attach an Italian translation of the curriculum vitae.
In addition, candidates residing outside the European Union must submit by the start date of the lessons - if they pass the selection - the documentation required by law and by the provisions of the Italian Public Security Authorities for non-EU citizens (request to obtain a residence permit for study purposes).
Scholarships, tuition exemptions, students loans, and other forms of financial aid bring training of the highest artistict quality complemented by direct practical experience in the chosen field within the reach of all.
Scholarships. Students who pass the selection process and whose ISEE (Equivalent Financial Status Indicator) does not exceed 20,000 euros may apply for a scholarship to cover all or a part of tuition. The application process will be communicated in a separate announcement delivered to all those passing the selection process.
Merit loans and student loans. The La Scala Academy has established conventions with credit institutes to provide other forms of financial aid covering tuition and/or lodging to all students in good academic standing.
For further information, please contact the Teaching Office: segreteria.didattica@accademialascala
The Academy has agreements with accommodation, restaurants, theatres, cinemas and other shops, from which students can benefit - by presenting their ID card - or even candidates for selection, by presenting their full registration.
Once the course has been completed, the student can join the Alumni Accademia La Scala community, a platform that provides the Academy's alumni with a range of services, including job offers, continuing education content, event proposals, conventions and reserved discounts - as well as fostering relations between alumni.
